FRUIT AND VEGETABLE STATISTICS OF INDIA - 2008

Currently upto 40% is wasted between farm and fork due to various reasons. How can the producer-farmer get a better income and the consumer get a better and fresh quality in a win-win situation? Can the new retailing format called malls replace the untidy and quality-cleanliness-averse hawker and small vendor, in the prime cities ?

Thanks once again for taking the time to post a comment on my blog in response to the article about America's complicated relationship with Pakistan now that the General is gone. I am posting your comment and providing my responses thereto:

Praful Vora has left a new comment on your post "Post No. 35b: The Pakistani Issue About Which We ...":

The fact of the matter is that the USA establishment has consistantly been supporting dictatorial and despotic regimes round the world [No question about that.]

with a hope of controlling global destinies and thereby protecting the USA quality of life [Subject to interpretation. I would submit that the US has advanced its particular interests at the time depending on the situation. Whether a particular policy at a particular time was for the specific purpose of "controlling global destinies" might be viewed as a subjective interpretation. Sometimes governments feel that they have to make the best of bad situations, and choose to go with the lessor of evils. It's not like picking a spouse, where you have a choice not to have one at all, or can go out and seek and advertise for possible candidates.

This policy has hurt USA more than it can imagine and the establishment somehow seems at cross purposes with its own citizen's values. I agree with you that at this point in time, some of our past actions are clearly contrary to values that we articulate and espouse, which some might view as the US saying, "Do as I say, not as I do."

With Pakistan's current situation, the USA has run out of chairs in the merry-go-round. [AGREED]Still there is talk of USA supporting the anti-people leaders there with billions of dollars. [Frequently, US interests are not in the best interests of the local population, but what is in the best interests of the U.S. Are you suggesting that any country should base its foreigh policy decisions on what is in the interests of the local country in question?] More leakages, more corruption, and more bad repurcussions for USA in the long run. [You're probably correct."

That the most powerful country in the world purporting to promote liberal democracy dabbles in undesirable anti-citizen governments around the world is what shocks all right thinking people.

Poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere. The USA has begun to learn this much to the misery of its citizens. Its policies of yesteryear will not help it maintain its super high consumption patterns ... the rest of the world is doing a catch up.
