स्वच्छता अभियान - CLEANLINESS PROJECT.

स्वच्छता अभियान needs Celebrities to be seen working WITH सफाई कर्मचारी, addressing their life issues, discussing work with garbage consolidators, planning with solid waste management Muni officers. This will be meaningful tokenism, rather than just a photo-op with Celebrities waving broom over clean pavements. The tokenism will educate citizens on garbage and what happens to it and how it can be reduced and managed. Separation, collection, consolidation, transportation are all parts of the Cleanliness Project and citizens need awareness thru watching and listening to celebrities, workers, managers and experts.

Why is this missing for so long in the promotion of this great initiative? Is public and Govt aware that only 3.000 Ton of garbage is transported out of 10,000 Ton created daily in Mumbai? That we are terribly short of compactors and sites for accumulation and treating the transported garbage? That the Workers have not absorbed and using safety equipment and have serious health and substance abuse issues? That mohalla dust bins are regularly stolen or not cleaned at all? That 'man made items' as garbage, lack an unbroken chain from citizen to dump, are not professionaly sorted for value, and poisons are generated due to open burning? That nature created items as garbage can be composted and then sold as fertilizer for plant nurseries or domestic gardens? Why is a holistic approach still missing from citizen and children education? Why are we forgetting that garbage does not happen in nature, citizens work very hard to create it? Its possible to educate and thereby reduce, reuse, recycle what we call garbage. Can Celebrities do more than pose with broom on clean pavements?
